4th Round V Blantyre Celtic, December 28th 1991

Stoneyburn Juniors V Blantyre Celtic

28th December 1991

Scottish Cup 4th Round

Stoneyburn entered this match with one injury problem to Tommy Kenny who tore ligaments in a previous cup tie at Lochgelly.  Blantyre came to Stoneyburn confident of knocking Stoneyburn out of the cup and were so confident that their supporters were over at the bookies betting them to win the game and the scottish cup outright but the fulshie had other ideas...

Stoneyburn's team was Billy Clark, Brian Wallace, Calvin Rodgers, Ally McFarland, Shuggie Mitchell, Jock Tait, Dougie Hume, Kipper Lynch, Gary Mills, Colin Blakey and Rab McKenna, Subs - Andy Lambert and Paul Quigley

A large crowd watched as Stoneyburn took the game to their opponents and deservedly went ahead in the 1st half after Millsey was pulled down which resulted in Kipper stroking the ball home.  15 minutes into the 2nd half and Blantyre equalised and things were looking bad 5 minutes later when Captain Ally Macfarland was sent off with a straight red card.  The rear guard of Shuggie, Calvin and big Brian stood firm and Beechwood park erupted when Millsey hammered home the winning goal, one of the 22 he scored that season, with 5 minutes to go to set up an East Region classic against Dunbar in the 5th round of the Scottish.
